SUSTAINABLE GUITAR WOODS
On 2 January 2017 the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species (CITES) declared all tropical rosewood species as schedule CITES2 protected flora. These are most of the traditional woods used in guitars other than Brazilian rosewood (CITES1). Many luthiers with conscience are now looking at alternative more sustainable woods.
Scientific studies comparing the traditional against more sustainable options are now available with interesting results which will be discussed. The audience will also participate in a blind listening test where we compare the sound of two Identical specification rosewood and alternative wood guitars.
