BARKIN SERTKAYA
Hailing from Anatolia, Barkin is a classical guitarist, academic and a space enthusiast.
He holds more than a decade of experience in teaching in tertiary fields, while carrying out his career as a multi-strings player with a specialization in classical guitar. During his 11 years of conservatoire education with full scholarship in Ankara, he had the pleasure of performing Leo Brouwer’s Concerto No:3 Elegiaco, No:6 Volos, Castelnuovo Tedesco’s No:1 D-Dur, Rodrigo's Aranjuez. He's also developed a vast, unique repertoire to perform as a soloist which includes J.S.Bach, Domeniconi's enchanting works of the Turkish culturescapes, M.Giuliani's works of virtuosic artistry and a wholesome Eastern European playlist of Bogdanovic, Bayraktar, Kucukay... |

He has also assisted in the organization of annual Bilkent Classical Guitar Festivals (2004-2010), hosting workshops and masterclasses with renown artists, such as Roland Dyens, Leo Brouwer, Costas Cotsiolis and Aniello Desiderio. He toured South-East Europe and Asia-minor with renown vocal artist Cem Adrian, performed with celebrated pianist Fazil Say, delivered numerous solo/ chamber recitals and was nominated as a multi-instrumentalist performer in Cirque du Soleil’s ZED.
Barkin's scope of teaching expertise ranges across various international academia including the celebrated Bilkent University- College of Music and Performing Arts, Cankaya University and the University of Auckland. Barkin quintessentially blends pedagogical experience, classical Western ethos and Eastern philosophy, while respecting the contemporary techniques of leading schools and virtuosos of the globe. As a science fan and a celestial inquisitive, he enjoys reflecting on existence and channel the thoughts into his art, education method and persona.
