OVERSEAS STUDY AND CAREER PATHWAYS IN MUSIC

Mile Johnston
For any serious young classical guitarist, overseas study can be one of the most defining decisions in their musical journey. However, the geographic isolation of NZ/Australia makes it hard to know where to start. Then what's next after graduation? What does a career in music look like today? Having lived in New York City for the past 5 years studying asking myself these very questions, I can provide unique insights into every step of this process from the audition to graduation and beyond. A career in music can mean more than just performing. Thinking about career possibilities can shape how you consider your artistry and role in society.

In this workshop we will discuss the following:
  • Why choose to study overseas
  • Where to consider and differences between countries
  • How to afford study and available grants
  • What doors and career paths can studying overseas lead to
  • Defining what a career in music looks like
