SIGHT-READING
Sight-reading has been a favorite topic of mine over the last thirteen years, starting out as the focus of my doctoral thesis and continuing as lectures and recently published book.
Developing your sight-reading skills will allow you to enter into a larger world of music making. In ensemble settings you will be able to join in and make music with others as well as being able to listen and interact while you play. In lessons you will have more adaptability to explore fingerings and the ability to start playing anywhere in the score will greatly assist in communication between teacher and student. In your own practice sessions you can explore new and unfamiliar music with ease, move away from the need for memorization, and learn repertoire faster.
In this workshop I will go through a variety of strategies that will help you sight-read more fluently. Scanning the score, pattern recognition, looking ahead, and dropping out will all improve your sight-reading. I will guide you through each of these strategies and more, providing you with practical solutions and worksheets so that you can come away from this workshop with clear and actionable approaches to improve your sight-reading.
